RSVP: Getting Things Done The RSVP Mission: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) recruits volunteers fifty-five years of age and older and places them in meaningful and challenging volunteer opportunities to serve and benefit themselves and their community. What is RSVP? RSVP is a part of the "Senior Corps", a network of national service programs that provide over half a million Americans 55 and over the opportunity to apply their life experiences to meeting community needs. RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of non-profit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based groups. RSVP recruits seniors to serve from a few hours a month to almost full-time, though the average commitment is 4 hours a week. RSVP has been active in Northern Fairfield County for over 30 years and is currently one of the largest programs in the state of Connecticut. In fiscal year 2003-2004, RSVP had over 550 active senior volunteers who contributed over 60,000 hours of service to local agencies and non-profit organizations. This was an average net value to the Northern Fairfield Community of over $1,031,000. RSVP of Northern Fairfield County serves the towns of Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, Redding and Ridgefield. Volunteer Opportunities: RSVP volunteers serve their community in a variety of capacities. These include, but are not limited to: being a Board member, bookkeeping, computer instructors, driving clients to medical appointments, event management, working at hospital gift shops, being a library aide, working with mailing groups, mentoring children, knitting and needlework, serving as a nursing home assistant, reading to the blind, being a volunteer receptionist, making minor household repairs for other seniors, tutoring and much more base on your personal skills, hobbies, educational background and interests.
