Being part of the response team requires both commitment and training.  Initial training is a series of 6 basic courses generally offered locally.  If you’d like to take on more responsibility,  you then might want to look at classes offered in neighboring chapters or elsewhere in the area.
 

Basic Courses:

Print out and sign a copy of the last page and your personal results, and bring them into the office to register as a volunteer.

Intermediate/Advanced Courses:
An extensive calendar of training is available for the next two months in the northeast service area.  Contact the individual listed to make sure there is still room in the class, then submit form 5898 to Rocky Tomlinson who must authorize it. FEMA Courses: 
American Red Cross now asks all its disaster volunteers to take two online FEMA classes, IS 100 and IS 700, in order to better integrate Red Cross services with a federal response. Print out verification of completion, and send a copy to Rocky Tomlinson to add to your file.
